A dragonfly is an insect. It is not the kind of dragon that most of us are interested in. Yet some of the characteristics of the dragon fly are similar to the dragons of myth which we love.
Dragonflies are generally large predatory insects and characteristically have chewing mouthparts They are found throughout the world except in the polar regions. The greatest variety of dragonflies are found in the tropics. Dragonflies are strong fliers and rest with their wings outstretched.
